Privacy Policy

Jawa Music ("we", "us", or "our") is committed to protecting your privacy. This policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, who we share it with, and your rights.

Information We Collect

• Content you share with the app: screenshots and photos, frames extracted from videos you share, and audio extracted from those videos
• Account information (email, name) when you sign in with Apple, Google, Spotify, or SoundCloud
• Music-service tokens you authorize so the app can read your playlists and add tracks to them (Apple Music, Spotify, SoundCloud)
• Usage data, performance metrics, and crash reports via Sentry and PostHog
• Device push tokens if you enable notifications

How We Use Your Information

• To identify songs in the screenshots and videos you share — this is the core function of the app
• To create and update playlists in the music service you have connected
• To send notifications you have opted into
• To diagnose bugs, crashes, and performance regressions

Third-Party AI Processing

To identify songs, Jawa Music sends the content you share to OpenAI, L.L.C. (United States) for processing through their API. Specifically:

• What is sent: the screenshot, photo, or video frame you shared, and — for videos — audio extracted from that video
• What it is used for: visual recognition (GPT-4o family) to read on-screen text and identify songs, and speech-to-text transcription (Whisper) to detect songs in spoken audio
• When it happens: only when you initiate a share, capture, or upload — not in the background
• Retention by OpenAI: per OpenAI's API data usage policy, content submitted via their API is not used to train their models and is retained only as needed to deliver the service and comply with their legal obligations

We obtain your explicit consent in the app before sending any content for AI processing. You can review what we send and revoke this permission at any time from the Account tab in the app. If you revoke consent, the app will stop sending content for identification.

Other Third-Party Services

In addition to OpenAI, we share data with the following services, each governed by their own privacy policy:

• Google Firebase — authentication, realtime database, cloud storage, push notifications. Your account record and uploaded content reside in Firebase.
• Apple Music, Spotify, SoundCloud — when you connect a music service, we use that service's API to create and update playlists on your behalf. We do not send any non-music data to these services.
• Amazon Web Services (Lambda) — runs the song-identification pipeline. AWS sees the same content that is forwarded to OpenAI; it is not retained beyond the duration of processing.
• Sentry — crash and error reporting.
• PostHog — product analytics (event-level, not content-level).

Each third party we share personal data with provides protections at least equivalent to those described in this policy, as required by their respective data processing terms.

Data Storage and Retention

Account records, music-service tokens, and submission metadata are stored in Google Firebase. Uploaded screenshots and video assets are stored in Firebase Cloud Storage long enough to complete identification and to let you review the result in your library; they are deleted on request and on account deletion.

Your Rights and Controls

• In-app consent toggle: grant or revoke AI processing consent at any time from the Account tab.
• Disconnect music services: revoke any connected music service from the Account tab; tokens are deleted immediately.
• Delete your account: the Account tab includes a one-tap account-deletion control. This removes your Firebase record, music-service tokens, submission history, and uploaded media. You can also email us to request deletion.
• Access or correction: email us to request a copy of your data or to correct it.

Children's Privacy

Jawa Music is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.

Changes

We may update this policy from time to time. If we make material changes to what we collect, who we share it with, or how it is processed, we will re-prompt you for consent inside the app before further processing occurs.
